A copper extractor hood to complement and complete the kitchen

A copper range hood is a useful addition to any kitchen. Range hoods are designed to trap airborne grease, heat, smoke, and other cooking byproducts. In a ductless “recirculation” application, trapped air passes through an activated carbon filter to remove smoke particles. Once clean, the range hood fan releases it into the air.

In another type of application, the ducted “ventilated” application, air is vented through a duct system that terminates outside the house. Most homeowners prefer the ducted application, because the ductless application simply recirculates heat and moisture back into the kitchen.

Why copper, though? Copper seems so outdated in an era that prefers stainless steel kitchen cabinets. The truth is that copper, as an accent, goes quite well with a stainless steel kitchen. Gives a look similar to oil rubbed bronze. The trick is to avoid excessive use of copper appliances. Mixing copper with other materials like slate, granite, or brushed nickel gives the kitchen a modern and classic look at the same time.

The best thing about copper is that it can look different. Copper can be dark, light, shiny, matte, or something in between. When shopping for a copper range hood, it’s always important to consult with the interior decorator and/or home architect to find the right shade of copper to match what’s already in the kitchen. If the house is under construction, it’s even more important to coordinate with them to make sure the range hood fits perfectly with the plans.
