Five things you may not know about Indianapolis Colts quarterback Peyton Manning

Peyton Manning is generally considered to be one of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. Since he was drafted in 1998 by the Indianapolis Colts, he has won multiple Most Valuable Player awards, numerous major football games and even a Super Bowl.

He is famous both for his actions on the field and for the many commercials and advertisements he also stars in. His father played professional football in the 1970s and early 1980s, and his brother plays in the NFL now. He’s one of the most popular players in the entire league, but here are five things you might not know about this great Indianapolis Colts quarterback.

– At the beginning of his freshman year in college, Peyton Manning was the third quarterback. The starting quarterback that season was actually future Major League Baseball player Todd Helton. Helton and the second-string quarterback suffered injuries earlier in the season and Manning stepped in and never looked back.

– One of the streets outside the University of Tennessee football stadium is named Peyton Manning Pass, after the school’s record-setting quarterback.

– Manning had a very successful rookie season, passing for over 3,000 yards and winning several games. Unfortunately for the Colts and Manning, he would also lead the league that year in interceptions thrown with 28.

– Although not considered the most romantic of all holidays, Peyton Manning married his wife Ashley on St. Patrick’s Day.

– Only four players have won the NFL MVP award three times during their career: Jim Brown, Johnny Unitas, Brett Favre and Peyton Manning.
