Take responsibility and lose weight

If you have a problem with losing weight, you need to do something about it, whether it’s addressing your eating habits or joining a fitness class. That doesn’t mean searching for a quick-fix diet program or some weight-loss gimmick the market has been flooded with. There is a school of thought out there that many of us have been victims of a plot to fatten the population. Yes, you read that right, a plot to make us all fat! That may seem like a stretch of the imagination, but there’s plenty of evidence to back up the theory.

Most of us are addicted to one type of food or another. For many people, pizza is a common weakness. They associate it, or similar foods, with festive and happy occasions of the past. The smell of pizza, the taste of it, etc. they all evoke pleasant memories and emotions and enjoying them helps us remember happy times. Unfortunately, pizza and many other foods are simply not good for us. But does that mean we have to do without our favorite junk food entirely?

Eating healthy food

Eating healthy does not mean boring as many would assume. For example, switching to a gluten-free lifestyle and adapting eating habits can have a significantly healthy effect on your body and life. Instead of eating fried chicken, switch to grilled or baked chicken. Similarly, avoid places like McDonalds and just make your own burgers. You may find that you actually enjoy them more.

Naturally, it takes some time to make these changes because we have been so conditioned to love the junk food that is so readily available. Unfortunately, many of us are simply addicted to these foods. Of course, there are those who really question that a food addiction is possible. However, there are studies that show that foods that contain a lot of sugar and/or salt affect the human brain in the same way as certain stimulant drugs, such as cocaine. This is certainly disturbing if nothing else. Hopefully it motivates us to take charge of our health and our eating habits once and for all.

Is there a conspiracy to make us fat?

In an attempt to answer this question, let’s take a look at what members of the United States Congress have decided. During the second half of 2011 they decided that certain unhealthy foods are actually healthy! Consider our previous example of pizza. They determined that pizza should be classified as a vegetable. The reason for this decision is because it contains tomato paste! At the risk of stating the obvious, tomatoes are indeed fruits, not vegetables, but this decision is just plain ridiculous despite that fact.

The implications of such a decision

One major implication of making this statement is that money can be saved when it comes to school lunches just for our children. Our children are not provided with healthy alternatives simply because they are invariably more expensive to provide. This despite the fact that 33% of American children are considered to be overweight. Instead of educating our children, we as the adults in their lives encourage unhealthy eating habits.

Another implication is that we are tricked into believing faulty logic. When we’re bogged down and depressed, we turn to our favorite comfort foods, all the while believing that the slices of pizza we eat are actually good for us, because pizza is classified as a vegetable. All it does is prevent people from breaking the vicious cycle and trading unhealthy foods for healthy alternatives.

What can you do?

If you are serious about losing weight, you need to accept the fact that you need to give up excuses and take responsibility for your health. Winners don’t win if they have a list of excuses. The sad reality is that no government in the world cares about your quality of life. That is a responsibility that is entirely yours. No matter what your addiction to food is, you must make the decision to no longer believe the faulty logic that exists.
